The evolution of languages by geographic areas

The decision of wanting to learn a new language has as main motivation moving to a foreign country, whether for professional or personal reasons. However, there is something that not everyone is aware and is, according to what will be the fate and linguistic diversity have, immigrants have to learn more than one language to simply survive. Nigeria, India and Indonesia are some of the countries with the largest number of languages spoken, but even in one of the most advanced countries of the world such as the United States, there are two towns called the melting pot of cultures coexist where hundreds of languages. We refer, of course, to the Queens County in New York and Los Angeles.

In Los Angeles are more than 330 languages, but it is the District of Queens which leads the gold medal being the most diverse in the world urban area. In any other city on Earth speak so many different languages, 800 to be exact.

According to the info graphic of the cartographer Molly Roy is interesting to see not only the number of languages and dialects that are concentrated in different areas of the County, as the Chinese in all its versions (mandarin, Cantonese, Sichuanese), but also can appreciate how in less than 10 Km coexist a multitude of cultures, from the Japanese influence in the Russian, and even for us almost unknown cultures such as the Chicano or the wary.

A variety nicotine-linguistics, according to studies of Endangered Language Alliance(an Association fighting to stop the wave of deaths of tongues), now exists only in Queens and that, probably, ceases to exist within no more than 20 or 30 years to because of generational changes. If this were to happen, it would be a fact to study and to take into account for the negative effects it could bring. It should not be forgotten that the languages offer a lot of cultural and historical information of any population. However, the language is the identity of any community.
